The above video was the final project in Chorus this year. Our teacher, Gamble, told us about the song Pachelbel Canon in D, with which we were all familiar. But then, Gamble played Tacobell Canon in D, which we all thought was hilarious. So, Gamble challenged us to create our own version of Canon in D with our own lyrics about any topic of our choosing. We could create a video with it or just do an audio recording, but we had to complete the whole project within a week. So, after choosing my group, we got straight to work in deciding our topic and writing lyrics for the song. We ended up deciding that our subject would be “ice on my wrist” (i.e. when you’re wearing an expensive watch or jewelry on your wrist) and we knew that we wanted to make a video.
Fast forward to the last class period of Chorus we were able to work on this project… unfortunately, we had to record the audio and film the video in less than an hour and a half. So, as the “director” of the video, I was able to stay calm, cool, and collected under the stress of how much time we had. I was able to keep my thoughts together and stay efficient while working through the recording and filming of the video. Then, when I came home that afternoon, I was able to efficiently work through the editing of the video and continue doing so throughout the weekend. But, I knew when to control my perfectionism because of how much time we had to turn the video in.
So, this all translates back to my other classes and the work I have to do in them, but especially English. When we have had specific due dates or deadlines in English this year with papers or projects, I have been able to achieve them without stress and with efficiency. Although this video does not directly show qualities of my personal writing, the effort and actions that went into making it are a part of who I am as a person and so connect back to my writing.
